Common Dental Injuries

There are several types of injuries that we treat. The most common ones include:

  • Chipped/fractured teeth
  • Dislodged teeth
  • Teeth that got knocked out
  • Fractured roots

For a chip or a fracture of your teeth, we can reattach the chipped-off part. We may also replace the missing piece with a crown or a cap.

For dislodged teeth, it can either dislodge further into your gums or be partially knocked out. There are a few different treatment options for these dental injuries. Sometimes it will be repositioned and stabilized. Other times you may need a root canal if it cannot be salvaged.

If you have a tooth that gets knocked out, you can possibly place it back in and let it reposition. If not, we can clean up the area, allow it to heal, then replace it eventually with a dental implant.

A fractured root typically ends with extraction or root canal but stabilizing the tooth can be possible.

What Should I Do?

If you have a tooth that got knocked out, and you can locate it, you should put it in a glass of milk and reach out to our office right away to hopefully be able to place it back in.

For broken teeth, if your mouth is getting cut up by the sharp edges, you can place a bit of sugarless gum or dental wax over the tooth to protect your mouth. Do not use sugary gum or candies because that is potentially going to cause issues.

The most important thing with a dental emergency is that you reach out to us right away. We can triage you over the phone and get you in as soon as possible.
