Halloween Candy Buyback Program 2019

Douglas Hamill DDS is proud to partner for the second year in a row with the Halloween Candy Buyback Program, which is a nationwide program that allows kids to enjoy the perks of trick-or-treating without the risk of cavities and insulin spikes.

What is the Halloween Candy Buyback Program?

The annual buyback, founded in 2005 by Wisconsin dentist Chris Kammer, aims to teach children about healthful eating habits—despite the candy-coated festivities—as they contribute to charitable work. Donated candy will be exchanged for sugar-free alternatives from the Spry Dental Defense xylitol product line. We will then send the donated candy out to active-duty members and veterans of the armed forces around the world for a sweet treat during their deployments.

Every year, global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% and currently rests at about 50 million tons on sugar consumed per year, which is why parents need to be sure their kid’s teeth are being taken care of more than ever.

Besides the negative impact candy can have on your children’s teeth, excessive sugar intake can also lead to hyperactivity and weight gain.  In some cases, certain hard candies can also lead to broken and damaged teeth.

Dr. Hamill is looking to curb sugar loaded candy consumption and help kids by providing healthy alternatives, while also rewarding their piggy banks.

What Treats Are We Providing?

This year we are providing Spry Stronger Longer Natural Spearmint and Bubblegum flavored Gum as well as Spry children’s toothpaste and Zollipops all-natural suckers while supplies last. These products contain Xylitol, a healthy sugar-free alternative.

Xylitol is a white crystalline substance that looks and tastes just like sugar. It is not an artificial sweeter, but rather a natural sugar alcohol that is naturally found in various fruits and vegetables, and even produced naturally by the human body. Xylitol has over 40 years of research, and thousands of studies backing the safety and effectiveness of the sugar alternative.

Starting on Halloween and continuing until November 5th, swing by our office to exchange your excess Halloween candy for sugar-free alternatives so you can brighten your smile and brighten the day of a troop serving far away just in time for Veterans Day.
